Taking place across the week, some of York's biggest and most interesting companies are throwing open their doors to let you see inside. Get behind the scenes and learn from some of the city’s biggest success stories.

You will have the opportunity to meet senior members of the management team, learn about company culture, see what makes the company tick and how it works.

For Siemens Rail Electrification, opening up new lines and increasing capacity, whilst cutting costs and linking network, is all part of our portfolio that provides a high-performance, state-of-the-art rail electrification which meets all the expectations of rail infrastructure operators today. And it's a central component of the end-to-end networked, digital infrastructure of tomorrow.

Through assembling a well-coordinated and highly functional system from many individual components: Thanks to our comprehensive Sitras product family, we provide an optimal solution for every task related to AC & DC traction power supply, as well as modern high performance contact line systems for mass transit applications. Alongside our manufacturing capabilities, we have delivered multiple large scale expansion and improvements infrastructure projects across the United Kingdom.

What should I expect?

For the York Business Week 2018 Open Day at Siemens Rail Electrification, delegates can expect an introduction in to the journey of Siemens Rail Electrification over the last 10 years, as well as insightful talks from key business leaders within the company, on the capabilities and processes which allow us to deliver on a multitude of complicated large scale rail infrastructure projects. The session will include the current projects we operate on locally in York, such as the East Coast Mainline, as well as there being an opportunity at the end for Q&A’s

One of York's most significant employers, today employing many hundreds of people in York Nestle can trace its history in York back to 1862 when Henry Rowntree founded his company in the city. The York site is now home to Nestle's global confectionary headquarters and is one of the worlds largest confectionary factories, responsible for making more than one billion Kit Kats and 200 million Aero Bars each year. York is also home to Nestle's product Technology Centre, which is responsible for developing new technologies and innovative products, as well as providing help and technical assistance to nestle's operating companies around the world.

TSP Projects

Who are we?

TSP is a multi disciplinary engineering consultancy that has worked on some of the country's largest projects. Headquartered in York, TSP has an extensive portfolio of award-winning projects including the redevelopment of Kings Cross Station,  the Thames Link programme, numerous large scale energy from waste programmes and the Gatwick Airport Station Project.

What should I expect?

This behind the scenes look at one of York's largest employers will help you gain a greater knowledge of how TSP works collaboratively on some of the UK's largest and most interesting infrastructure projects.  You will learn about the Gatwick Airport Station project and how cutting edge technology including 3D modelling using VR goggles was used by the design team plus you will get to try the very latest 3D modelling technology using VR headsets for yourself. A not to be missed experience.

And if that isn't enough, the team will help you discover more about what lies beneath your feet with a talk about the Vale of York's geology, from the great glacial lake Humber to the York Floods!

Across both public and private sectors, Portakabin has created high-quality environments for schools including entire school campuses, laminar-flow theatres, laboratories and ward extensions for the healthcare sector, spacious office and welfare facilities for businesses and construction site accommodation.

What should I expect?

Hosted by Portakabin CEO Derek Carter, you’ll be taken through the origins of Portakabin from the 60s right up to present day. You’ll understand how the business has grown and developed and now operates around ten countries. There will also be a chance to meet key members of the team, including those who directly manage relationships with important customers such as the Department for Education alongside those who support and develop our 1,750 employees.

You will have the opportunity to meet senior members of the management team during a breakfast mingle as well as learn about company culture and how it works, finishing with a short tour of the company’s latest flagship project, Frederick House.

Benenden Health

Benenden Health is a non-profit, mutual organisation providing healthcare services to a UK-wide membership of over 800,000. It aims to be the affordable alternative to health insurance by providing low cost private healthcare when waiting times on the NHS are long.

The organisation is over 112 years old but has been based in York since 1990. For nearly three decades our people have helped us be a major part of the local business community. From employee volunteering with York Cares to supporting grass roots sport through York City Football Club, we look to be connected with our area. We are currently 50th in the Sunday Times top 100 employers to work for in Yorkshire and Humberside.

We specialise in healthcare services to both individuals and to employers looking to provide a valuable healthcare benefit to their employees.
